Diamond Cut
Diamonds come in a wide variety of shapes, or cuts including Round, Princess, Emerald, Cushion, Pear, Marquise, Oval, Radiant, and Asscher, Trilion, and Baguette. Each cut has a different number of facets, or faces. The more facets, the more sparkle. The number of facets in any given cut can vary, but there are some cuts that usually have more facets than others.
Asscher Cut - similar to emerald cut, but square. The Asscher cut is often considered a vintage style cut.
Baguette Cut - similar to the emerald, in that it is rectangular, but the corners are pointed.
Cushion Cut - a rounded, square cut. It is shaped similar to a pillow, hence the name “cushion.” This cut is considered to be an antique style cut.
Emerald Cut - originally developed for the Emerald gemstone, it is a rectangle with cut corners, and long facets.
Marquise Cut - similar to the pear cut, but with two pointed ends.
Oval Cut - shaped, as the name suggests, like an oval.
Pear Shape Cut - shaped like it sounds, an oval with a point on one side. If worn with point pointed outward, makes finger look long and slender.
Princess Cut - another popular cut, square with many facets.
Round Diamonds - Most popular cut - classic diamond cut. Usually has the most facets, therefore, the most sparkle.
